Rear-end accidents oftentimes occur totally out of the blue, and vehicle drivers and their passengers never see these accidents coming. In many instances, the accident victim must simply brace for the impact.
If you have suffered injuries in a rear-end motor vehicle accident, you may be eligible to pursue money damages.
Causes of Rear-End Accidents
Rear-end accidents can occur for a variety of reasons. Sometimes, these accidents occur at traffic intersections, while at other times they may occur on a busy highway during rush hour traffic. Some common causes of rear-end accidents including the following:
- Inattentive driving or distracted driving
- Failing to abide by the rules of the road
- Drunk or drugged driving
Common Injuries Sustained in Rear-End Accidents
While some rear-end accidents can cause relatively minor soft tissue injuries, other collisions can result in permanent and debilitating injuries. Soft tissue injuries can occur when the accident victim’s head moves abruptly forward and backward at the point of impact (i.e., whiplash). More serious injuries can occur when a part of the accident victim’s body makes contact with some part of the vehicle, such as the steering wheel or the door.
Proving a Rear-End Accident Case
In order for the accident victim to obtain financial recovery, he or she will first need to show that the other driver acted unreasonably under the circumstances. This might mean that the other driver violated a traffic law or operated the vehicle while intoxicated, leading to the rear-end impact. The accident victim must also show that the injuries and damages sustained directly resulted from the motor vehicle accident.
